Is it wrong to ask for more...
...from someone? Or should things just evolve the way they will at their own pace...even if I don't like it.

I think it all depends on what you are talking about.

Is it wrong to want my husband to let me be me and understand that 'this' is not the basket of roses he thinks it is??? Is is wrong to want him to see the REAL picture?

I don't think it is wrong...but it might be unrealistic in a sense. Have you actually told him in a clear way that things are not good? (in a way that he understands?)
Do you know what you want to do that you cannot do with him? (how you can be you). If not really- maybe clarity on your end about it will help you explain it better to him.
I think sometimes we all want people to have esp. We think they "should get us" if they love us- but sometimes it is not that easy. I think our responsibility is to be clear about what we want, don't want, expect and need...and then if we clearly communicate that and the otherperson cannot or is not willing to work with us- then it is a good time to be mad
